QChennai: City Hospital Under Scanner; NGO Alleges Scam by Aavin
Two weeks after an audio clip of Dr Basker Reddy and his team trying to strike a bargain with 108 ambulance drivers surfaced, the Tamil Nadu government has initiated disciplinary action against Global hospitals, Perumbakkam, Chennai.
The hospital has now been temporarily excluded from the Chief Minister’s Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme. Ten temporary contract drivers have been dismissed and nine other permanent drivers have been suspended in connection with the case. In the audio clip, the team of doctors can be heard negotiating with the ambulance drivers, coercing them to bring all accident victims as well as other patients along the GST, ECR and OMR roads to their hospital.

2. ‘Public Paying for Aavin’s Malpractices’: TN Anti-Corruption Group Alleges ScamThe Tamil Nadu Makkal Urimai Amaippu, a Chennai-based anti-corruption group has approached the Madras High Court alleging a scam in the state government-owned milk cooperative, Aavin.
Stating that the recent price hike of Rs 6 by the government was not necessary, the petition before the court alleges that several malpractices were involved in the sale of milk to private diaries across the state. The government had justified the price hike in August following a rise in procurement price to dairy farmers.

3. Two Booked Under POCSO Act for Harassing GirlTwo persons were booked under Pocso (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) Act for sexually harassing a five-year old girl near Anamalai at Pollachi. According to police, a 29-year-old daily wage laborer residing at Anamalai in Pollachi had consumed alcohol along with his friends, Karthi, 24, and Murugan 29, on Monday night and then took his two friends home for dinner.
After reaching there, Karthi and Murugan, took their friend's daughter out to buy her a chocolate, but did not return home even after long hours. The girl's father in anxiety went searching for them and found her daughter in an abandoned area. The girl had told her father that his two friends had harassed her.

4. 16-Year-Old Girl Found Dead Near Madurai with Head Smashed In, Suspect HeldA 16-year-old girl with severe head injuries was found dead in a village, around 60 kilometres from Madurai on Monday. While the police have arrested a suspect, the probe is still on to establish a motive behind the alleged murder and whether other people were involved in the crime.
According to the police, the girl was visiting her grandmother in the village. On Monday morning, the girl went missing, which prompted villagers to begin searching for her. Hours later, her body was found among the bushes in a field and her head had been smashed in. The villagers then alerted the police. Based on a preliminary investigation, the police arrested Madhavan, a 24-year-old man, in connection with the crime.

5. Wife, Male Friend Murder ‘Abusive’ ManA 26-year-old Suresh was allegedly strangulated to death by his wife and her male friend in Puzhal on Sunday night. “Recently, Suresh found Anupriya (23) talking on the phone with her male friend, Murasoli Maran (22), a native of Villupuram, for long hours.
The couple often fought due to this and Suresh was said to have physically abused Anupriya. Angered by this, Anupriya decided to kill Suresh so she mixed sleeping tablets in his food on Sunday night. After he slept, Murasoli and she strangulated him to death,” said a police officer.
