QChennai: Subhasri Case Accused Out on Bail; TN Seshan Passes Away

1. Subhasri Death: Jayagopal, Brother-In-Law Get Conditional Bail Subhasri’s death shook the conscience of the state, finally forcing authorities to take long-pending action and forcing the courts to reiterate the law.

One of the main accused in the death of the 23-year-old techie Subhasri because of an illegal flex banner, former AIADMK councillor S Jayagopal has been granted conditional bail by the Madras High Court.

The court granted bail to Jayagopal and his brother-in-law Meghanathan on Monday, 11 November and directed Jayagopal to pay Rs 25,000 each to the Cancer Institute Chennai and Government Stanley Hospital for treatment of poor patients.

One of the main accused in the death of the 23-year-old techie Subhasri because of an illegal flex banner, former AIADMK council or S Jayagopal has been granted conditional bail by the Madras High Court in Chennai till the duo receive their summons from Alandur court.

2. Former Chief Election Commissioner TN Seshan Passes Away at 86 Prominent personalities from across the country including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, took to Twitter to express grief over Seshan’s death.

Former Chief Election Commissioner Tirunellai Narayana Seshan died of cardiac arrest on Sunday, 10 November in Chennai. A recipient of the prestigious Ramon Magsaysay Award, Seshan introduced key reforms in India’s electoral process during his tenure in the 90s. He was the Chief Election Commissioner of India from 1990 to 1996 and played a major role in ending electoral malpractices in the country.

A 1955-batch IAS officer, he served in various capacities before he was appointed as Secretary of Defence in 1988, following which he went on to lead the poll body from 1990 to 1996.

3. Chennai’s Periphery Yet to Benefit from Increased Water Supply In some areas like Ambattur and Alandur, residents complain of poor quality of water too. 

Twenty days ago, Chennai Metro Water upped its water supply by a generous 100 Million Litres per Day (MLD), which brought much relief to core city areas. But the same cannot be said for added areas on the city’s periphery, as the increased supply is yet to reach them.

Areas including Thiruvottriyur, Alandur, Nandambakkam, parts of Mugalivakkam, Puzhuthivakkam, Porur and Ambattur have seen no change in piped water supply and continue to receive water once in two days for only one or two hours. Though drought like situation has abated in the city, water supply to added areas remain sluggish.

4. Coimbatore Woman Grievously Injured Allegedly After AIADMK Flagpole Turns Deathtrap

A 30-year-old woman, who is the sole breadwinner of her family in Coimbatore, was grievously injured after coming under the wheels of a lorry on Monday. This after falling onto the road from her two-wheeler while allegedly trying to manoeuvre around a flagpole. Flagpoles bearing the AIADMK flag were planted on the side of the road for a family event by a party cadre.

A BBA graduate, Anuradha was on her two-wheeler when a flag pole allegedly fell on her path, causing her to suddenly manoeuvre her bike to avoid being hit. Losing balance, she fell on to the road, placing her directly under the wheels of a lorry, which ran over her legs. Onlookers rushed Anuradha to a private hospital and alerted her relatives who rushed to the hospital.

5. Mother & Daughter Attempt Suicide in Trichy Collectorate

Tension prevailed for some time at Trichy collectorate on Monday, when a woman along with her differently-abled daughter attempted to commit suicide by pouring kerosene on their persons.

Police said the woman James Marry and her daughter Anu Jayashree made this attempt after they presented a memorandum to the collector S Sivarasu. In her petition she said the thoroughfare leading to her house was encroached upon by her neighbours, putting mother and daughter to untold suffering. They also snapped the electricity power supply line to their house, they alleged. However, the mother-daughter duo was stopped from committing suicide by the police personnel present there.
