QCrime: 2 Held in EPF 'Scam'; Man Who Sold Daughter in Raj Caught

1. Rs 2,600-Cr EPF ‘Scam’: Two Held

The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of UP Police on Thursday arrested two more persons in connection with the alleged UPPCL provident fund (PF) scam, taking the total number of arrests to five in the case.

Abhinav Gupta, son of a former secretary of the power employees’ trust, and broker Ashish Chaudhary were arrested on the charge of criminal conspiracy.

Earlier, Abhinav’s father Praveen Kumar Gupta was arrested along with former UPPCL director (finance) Sudhanshu Dwivedi on November 3, on the basis of an FIR registered at Hazratganj police station of Lucknow on November 2. Two days after their arrest, former UPPCL managing director (MD) A P Mishra was also arrested.

2. Decomposed Body of Missing Girl Found, Police Rule out Sexual Assault

Five days after a 10-year-old girl went missing from near her house in Gosaiganj police station area on the outskirts of Lucknow, her decomposed body was recovered some 300 metres away on Thursday.

Circle Officer (CO) of Mohanlalganj area, Raj Kumar Shukla, that the girl was strangulated to death. “The post-mortem report has confirmed strangulation as the cause of death. The report has ruled out any sexual assault.”

After the girl went missing, her father had lodged a complaint on Saturday against an unidentified person under IPC Section 363 (kidnapping).

3. Man Involved in Two Gang Rape Cases Arrested

The Ahmedabad Crime Branch on Thursday arrested a 45-year-old man for allegedly being involved in two cases of gang rape near Narmada canal in Kadi town under Mehsana on Thursday.

According to police, the accused Akbar Sandhi Dafer alias Lulo (45), a native of Viramgam in Ahmedabad, and two of his accomplices allegedly gang-raped two women on October 27 and 30 near the Narmada canal area route in Kadi area of Mehsana. In both the cases, the gang targeted women accompanied by their male partners, who were subdued by them before attacking the women.

4. Two Impounded Bikes Stolen from Police Station in Surat

Two vehicles in Surat police custody have gone missing. Two separate complaints have been filed in the matter.

The two vehicles were stolen from g, which runs on a rental premises. A small room in a residential society with no facilities for seating arrangements for police staffers functions as the police station, which caters to lakhs of people. There is no space to keep detained vehicles in the compound as well.

5. Ghaziabad Cops Extorting ‘Free Food and Sweets’, SSP Asks Owners to Submit Bills

A body of food sellers in Ghaziabad city, right next to the national capital Delhi, have alleged cops have been extorting free food and Diwali sweets, leaving the police brass stumped.

A letter by president of Ghaziabad’s Association of Food Operators (AFO), Anil Gupta, alleges cops have been targeting local eateries, bakeries and restaurants, demanding free or discounted food and took away hundreds of sweet packets during Diwali without paying a penny.

The letter has gone viral on social media, making city’s senior superintendent of police offer to settle dues if approached by the aggrieved shop keepers.

6. 13-Yr-Old Sold by Father Found; She is 4 Months Pregnant

A man in Rajasthan’s Barmer district sold his 13-year-old daughter for Rs 7 lakh, police said after recovering her from Hyderabad on Monday.

Police arrested two people on the charges of kidnapping her. The father and two others were arrested in June when she went missing and are in jail, police added.

“We recovered the girl with two accused. We brought her to Barmer on Tuesday. She has been given to her mother. We will produce her in the high court on November 15,” said Barmer superintendent of police Sharad Choudhary.

7. I-T Searches on Civil Contractors in Mumbai Reveal Rs 735 Crore Irregularities

The income tax (I-T) department on Thursday revealed details of searches they carried out on November 6 at 37 properties of civil contractors in Mumbai and Surat. Many of these contractors have worked with the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).

In the searches, incriminating documents were seized that show large-scale tax evasion and money laundering. Some documents have also led to the detection of the use of bogus companies.

8. 26-Yr-Old Man in Noida Stabs Wife to Death, Injures Himself

A 26-year-old man allegedly murdered his 23-year-old wife at their rented house and also severely wounded himself in Ghaziabad’ s Balupura locality Monday afternoon. The police said while the woman had about seven-eight deep injuries, the man was rushed to GTB Hospital in Delhi for treatment.

According to the police, the man was identified as Vikas Kumar, who worked as an auto-rickshaw-driver. He had married Puja in December 2015. The couple had been living at a rented accommodation in Balupura. The police said the couple had frequent altercations as, according to the woman’s family, Vikas had allegedly demanded Rs 30,000 and a motorcycle as dowry after two months of their marriage.

9. Armed Robbers Kill One, Flee with Jewellery Worth Rs 25 Crore in Bihar

Armed robbers escaped with gold and silver ornaments worth Rs. 25 crore on Tuesday after shooting and injuring two jewellers and killing the driver of a sports utility vehicle (SUV) in which they were travelling in Bihar’s Begusarai district, the police said.

The incident took place in the Thakurichak neighbourhood under the limits of the Garhara police outpost. The police said the two jewellers suffered gunshot injuries and a third person, another jeweller, was unhurt. The slain driver was identified as Dipak Kumar.
