QCrime: Coaching Owner Leaks SSC Paper; 725 Held for Drunk Driving

1. Coaching Centre Owner Held for SSC Paper ‘Leaks’ in Bhiwandi

The Bhiwandi police on Thursday, 21 March, arrested the owner of a private coaching class for sharing Class 10 question papers with students minutes before their board exams. The arrest comes a day after the police registered a first information report (FIR) after a school in the area reported possible leaks of Secondary School Certificate (SSC) question papers on 14 March.

Just hours after the police registered the case on Wednesday, 20 March, the same day’s history and political science question paper was reportedly circulated on social messaging apps. The FIR was filed after Bhiwandi-based Samvad Foundation reported a first possible leak to the education board.

2. Model Threatened to File False Rape Case: Accused Teen

The teenager who allegedly killed 20-year-old aspiring model Mansi Dixit at his flat in Oshiwara after she rejected his sexual advances has applied for bail. He has claimed Dixit demanded money from him and threatened to file a false rape or molestation case against him if he failed to do so.

He also claimed to have mental ailment and submitted he often initiates physical fights with other people due to his aggressive nature. He said he was a “peaceloving” person and termed Dixit’s death an “accident.”

3. 725 Arrested for Drink Driving Across Mumbai

As a part of its special drive for Holi, the city police, in collaboration with the traffic department, recorded at least 10,675 cases of traffic violations on Thursday, 21 March.

During the 16-hour drive, 725 people were arrested for drink driving, and their vehicles were seized. The police caught 789 bikers who had two pillion riders and 166 for rash driving. While 430 people were caught for speeding, 4,738 were held for riding without helmets and 3,827 other offences were registered.

4. 10 Cattle Smugglers Held on Jharkhand-Odisha Border

Ten suspected cattle smugglers were arrested with 130 animals following a raid on Jharkhand-Odisha border in West Singhbhum district on Thursday, 21 March, a senior police officer said.

A police team led by Chaibasa Sub-Divisional Police Officer (Sadar) Amar Kumar Pandey conducted the raid.

Around 130 cattle have been recovered from them, the police officer said, adding they were being taken to Odisha's Mayurbhanj district.

5. Man Held for Poisoning Wife to Death

A 40-year-old man from Badlapur was arrested by Thane Police Thursday, 21 March, for allegedly killing the wife and attempting to kill the couple's two children.

S Bhosle, the accused, was booked under IPC sections 302 (murder), 498-A (subjecting married woman to cruelty), 307 (attempt to murder).

The case was registered at Badlapur East police station late Wednesday, 20 March, night after the father of the victim woman lodged a complaint.

6. Rehab Centre Staffer Held for Inmate's Death, 2 Others Booked

An attendant of a rehabilitation centre at Kausa in Thane district of Maharashtra was arrested following the death of one of its inmates under mysterious circumstances, police said on Thursday, 21 March.

Rais Khan (40), was arrested late Wednesday, 20 March night, for alleged negligence that led to the death of 31-year-old Nayeem Shamim Khan, son of a vegetable vendor, earlier this week, police said.

Two directors-- Mubin Tade and Iqbal Kazi-- of Al Tayebeen Rehabilitation Centre have also been booked in this connection, police said.

7. Cryptocurrency Racket Kingpin Among 4 More Held in Delhi

The city crime branch, which busted a fake cryptocurrency racket last month, arrested four more persons, including the kingpin, from Delhi.

Crime branch (unit XII) on Monday, 18 March, arrested Ashok Goyal Jaipuria, Asif Malpani, Baljit Singh Saini and Pradeep Arora from Delhi after their names cropped up in the Rs 100 crore racket. Police have frozen several bank accounts of Goyal, the mastermind, and Delhi police too are probing the case.

8. Couple Gets 10 Years in Jail for Minor’s Rape

The district sessions court sentenced a couple from Navi Mumbai to 10 years’ rigorous imprisonment for the rape of a 13-year-old girl, who is a distant relative Special judge P P Jadhav also fined Allauddin Mansuri, a resident of Warlipada in Pawane village, and his wife Akhtari Begum, Rs 11,000 each.

Prosecutor Vivek Kadu told the court Akhtari lured the girl, a Class VIII student, to their home and her husband forced himself on the minor girl. The harassment continued as the victim was threatened into silence, the prosecution said.

9. Police Book Businessman as SUV Runs Over 4-Yr-Old

A four-year-old boy was run over by an SUV at Filterpada, Aarey Colony, on Tuesday, 19 March. Arhan Khan, in preschool, was trying to catch a bird when the vehicle hit him around 12.30pm, police said. He was rushed to Hiranandani Hospital, where he died before admission. Businessman Abhimanyu Saktawat, 26, at the wheels, said he did not notice the child But residents said he got bouncers to help him to speed away.

Saktawat told police his men came to his help when the mob thrashed him and did not allow him to take the child to hospital. “The driver was speeding on the bad road that leads to Royal Palms. He got down from the SUV, put my child on the rear seat and tried to speed away, when he was caught by my maternal uncle’s son,” the victim’s father, Ramzan Khan, who runs a general store, told TOI.
