1. Cops, Public Assault Nigerian in Delhi

Members of the public and traffic policemen in Dwarka Mod on Monday assaulted a 35-year-old man from Nigeria who allegedly manhandled officials after he was prosecuted for a traffic violation.

On Wednesday, after a video of the incident surfaced, police booked the foreign national and ordered an enquiry into the role of the mob.

No one was arrested in the case till the filing of this report.

Prince is a resident of Mohan Garden, a neighbourhood near Dwarka. Around 10.30 am on Monday, Prince was riding a scooter and was flagged down by three traffic policemen for not wearing a helmet.

2. Girl Raped by 2 Men Let into House by Stepdad

Two men were arrested for raping a seven-year-old girl. The girl’s stepfather allowed the two men in after they offered him a bottle of liquor. The stepfather used to also sexually assault her after getting drunk.

The survivor had initially revealed her ordeal to her tuition teacher in Punjabi Bagh after which the father was arrested two days ago.

But later, while recording her statement before a magistrate, she mentioned the other two men as well.

DCP (west) Monika Bhardwaj said the two were arrested from their houses.

3. Man’s Chopped Body Found Buried in House; Police Suspect Wife, Her Friend Behind Murder

The mutilated body of a man who went missing a few days ago was found buried in his own house in northwest Delhi’s Swaroop Nagar on Wednesday evening. The victim’s wife and her male friend are suspects in the murder.

DCP (outer-north) Gaurav Sharma confirmed the discovery of the body and said that the woman is being questioned.

The victim, Rajesh, a native of Bihar, had recently moved with his wife and son to the one-room rented accommodation in Amrit Vihar Colony. His wife had reported him missing to the local cops around five days ago.

4. Celebratory Shot Leaves 55-year-old in Critical State

A 55-year-old man was left battling for life after sustaining a bullet injury due to celebratory firing at an engagement ceremony in east Delhi’s Old Kondli on Sunday night. The accused fired a double-barrel gun while dancing.

DCP (east) Jasmeet Singh said that the accused, Suraj, has been arrested. He has been booked for attempt to murder and under sections of the Arms Act.

The ceremony was being conducted in a community centre in the area.

5. Three of Auto Gang That Robbed People on Highways Arrested

Three members of the dreaded ‘auto-rickshaw’ gang, which had robbed, beaten up and tried to rape a 22-year-old woman on 18 March and several similar cases, were arrested on Wednesday.

Police said they have established their involvement in at least five cases. Police officers investigating the case also said that victims in three cases have identified the three arrested men.

The suspects – Sunny Kumar, Sumit Sharma and Pradeep Kumar – are residents of Loni and are aged 22-26 years, the officers said.

The police said that the woman reached Mohan Nagar around 10.30 pm after boarding the auto of the accused from sector 62, Noida.

6. Chit Fund Fraud: Man Duped of ₹40 Lakh

Police on Tuesday booked two men from Haryana for allegedly duping a Sangrur-based man of ₹40 lakh. The accused had allegedly assured him to return double money after a month.

Those booked have been identified as Darshan Singh and Sahib Singh of Babain village of Kurukshetra (Haryana).

The police said the complainant, Bhushan Kumar of Mehlan village in Sangrur district, filed a complaint alleging the two met him three months back and asked to invest money in their finance firm in Haryana.

7. NRI Finds ₹50 Lakh Jewellery Missing from Bank Locker

An NRI from Singapore who had kept gold and diamond jewellery worth Rs 50 lakh in a locker of a government bank in Shalimar Bagh was in for a shock when he and his mother went back a few months later.

First, they could not open the locker with the keys given by the bank. Then, on getting it opened by a locksmith, they found that all items except for a mangalsutra and a few other small jewellery worth around Rs 2 lakh had gone missing.

Crime Branch took up the probe after the victim, Kunal Saha, recently filed an FIR for criminal breach of trust. Saha said his mother and sister had deposited their ancestral jewellery in June 2017.

8. Gang That Stole Over 1,000 Car Batteries Busted

Five members of a gang, which was involved in several theft cases of car batteries in southeast Delhi, were arrested on Tuesday. The men are believed to have stolen at least 1,000 car batteries in a short span of time.

DCP (southeast) Chinmoy Biswal said the accused have been identified as Sohail (22), Sahne Alam (23), Sahzad (25), Imran (30) and Jameel Ahmed.

The gang was primarily targeting parked e-rickshaws and heavy vehicles. The accused were nabbed after cops investigating a case of battery theft saw Imran in a CCTV footage standing close to a car in the night.

9. Man Held at IGI Trying to Sneak in ₹32 Lakh Goods

A man has been arrested at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport for trying to smuggle in branded items like phones, watches and shoes worth nearly Rs 32 lakh.

The man was intercepted by the Customs department soon after crossing the green channel on arriving from Muscat. The incident took place on 14 March, after the passenger arrived by flight WY 247.

Based on a tip-off, a detailed baggage and personal scan of the passenger was carried out. While nothing was found on his person, a number of items, like 42 iPhones, branded bags, shoes and watches were recovered from him.
