QCrime: Faridabad 'Family Killer' Arrested; Teacher Rapes Student

1. Gangsters Lawrence Bishnoi, Sampat Nehra Charged with Murder Bid in Panchkula Hospital Firing Case

Notorious gangsters Lawrence Bishnoi and Sampat Nehra and their aides were produced in a Panchkula district court amid tight security for framing of charges in two criminal cases that took place in 2017.

While Bishnoi is presently lodged in the Bharatpur jail in Rajasthan, his close aide Nehra was brought from the Patiala jail.

On 17 June, 2017, Nehra along with two other gang members freed their accomplice, Deepak, alias Tinu, from police custody at the Panchkula civil hospital in Sector 6. They used pepper spray on the hospital staff and police and opened fire to flee with Tinu, who was brought there for treatment from the Ambala jail.

2. 29-Year-Old Molests, Kills Woman in her Dombivli Home, Arrested

The Ramnagar police on Tuesday, 12 November arrested a man who allegedly molested and killed his 19-year-old neighbour at the latter’s residence in Dombivli. The incident took place when the victim, who lived with her 52-year-old mother, was home alone on Monday.

The 29-year-old accused, who lives in the same building as the victim, showed up at her house and said he was looking for a baby squirrel. He then forcefully entered her house and tried to molest her, said police. When she tried to resist his attempts, he strangled her with his hands and then suffocated with a pillow.

3. Faridabad ‘Family Killer’ Arrested

Police have arrested the man, who allegedly killed a 65-year-old doctor and three of his family members at their Faridabad house last week, from Maharashtra’s Shirdi on Wednesday, 13 November.

Dr Praveen Mediratta was found dead in his clinic. His wife, daughter and son-in-law were found dead inside rooms on the first floor. Though the accused, Mukesh, left a confession note, saying he wanted to rob the family but ended up killing them, police suspect it was planned.

“We suspect he planned the murder as there were no signs of loot,” said a senior police officer.

4. Woman Abducted by 2, Gang-Raped in West Bengal

An inmate of a home for destitute women was allegedly abducted by two men and gang raped when she escaped from the institute early on Tuesday in Kolkata, the police said on Wednesday, 13 November.

Police said the staff members of the privately-run home spotted the woman in the corridor, following which she is suspected to have unlocked one of the gates and left the premises around 2 am on Tuesday.

Caretakers of the institute said the woman has escaped on Monday too. “Noting her strange behaviour, I hid the keys on Tuesday night. But this time, she must have broken the lock,” a staff member said.

5. Chennai Man Robbed, Pushed Out of Running Auto

Police have launched a hunt for a four-member gang that attacked a man and robbed him of Rs 15,000 and his mobile phone near Korukkupet on Monday, 11 November.

The man sustained injuries in the attack and has been hospitalised.

Police said Sudhakar, 25, of Korrukupet, a construction worker, was waiting for a bus to Moolakothalam. Even after a long wait, he could not find a bus and then decided to board a share autorickshaw that had stopped near him. He saw four men already seated inside. He sat on the rear seat. When the vehicle moved a few metres, the four men suddenly attacked him and snatched Rs 15,000 and his mobile phone, Sudhakar said in his complaint. “They then pushed him down from the running vehicle,” said an investigating officer. He could not raise an alarm since one of gang members had gagged him.

6. Tripura State Rifles Officer Arrested in 2017 Journalist Murder Case

An Assistant Commandant of Tripura State Rifles (TSR), the state’s counter-insurgency force, was arrested on Wednesday, 13 November in connection with the 2017 murder of journalist Sudip Dutta Bhowmik.

Two journalists were killed in Tripura in 2017, months before the state went to polls in 2018.

Santanu Bhowmik, engaged with a local TV channel Channel DinRaat, was hacked to death while covering political protests at Mandai, 25 km from Agartala, on 20 September, 2017. Senior crime reporter Sudip Dutta Bhowmik, of Syandan Patrika, a Bengali newspaper, was shot dead inside Tripura State Rifles (TSR) 2nd battalion headquarters at RK Nagar in West Tripura on 21 November.

7. Driver Decamps with Logistics Van Carrying Rs 72-L Cash, Held

A driver of a logistics firm was arrested for allegedly decamping with a cash van, containing over Rs 72 lakh, after pushing the security guard out of vehicle in the western suburb of Malad, police said on Wednesday, 13 November.

Sher Ali (45) was accompanied by a guard and cash collector Rahul Raghunath Khore, an official said, adding that when Khore alighted the van to collect cash at Malad, the accused pushed the guard out and sped away.

Ali went to his house in the eastern suburb of Ghatkopar and gave the bag containing over Rs 72 lakh to his daughter, the official said.

8. 2 Arrested for Robbing Man in Delhi

Two friends were arrested for allegedly robbing a man of his belongings at gunpoint in northeast Delhi Khajuri Khas area, police said on Wednesday, 13 November.

The incident took place on Monday night near Jama Masjid and the accused have been identified as Salman, 22, and Afzal, 22, they said. Salman used to sell fruits for his livelihood but was not satisfied with the meagre income, therefore he resorted to criminal activities, police said.

Following the incident, a case of armed robbery was registered and all the pickets and patrolling team of the Khajuri Khas were alerted, they said.

9. Tuition Teacher Arrested for Raping 16-Year-Old Girl in Nagpur

A 50-year-old tutor has been arrested here for allegedly raping and blackmailing a girl student. Saibal Sunil Choudhary, resident of Trimurti Nagar locality, was arrested on Tuesday after a case was registered against him with Ajni police station.

Inspector Hanumant Urlagondawar said that in September, Choudhary, who gave private tuitions, allegedly asked the 16-year-old girl, one of his students, to stay back for extra coaching.

He raped her for the first time on 15 September, as per the complaint. He also allegedly took her pictures and threatened to circulate them on social media if she disclosed the incident to anyone.
