Quack killed in Nawada, road blocked in protest

PATNA: A 25-year-old quack, Vijay Kumar, was shot dead by three armed assailants at a private clinic under Mufassil police station area in Nawada district on Friday morning, triggering protests by some local residents.

The incident took place around 10am when Vijay was attending to his patients in his clinic at Rustampur village under Mufassil police station area.

Three youths riding a motorbike reached there and pumped three bullets into Vijay’s body.

Police said he was rushed to Nawada Sadar hospital where the doctors declared him brought dead. Vijay was busy in dealing with people who had come to seek medical advice when the assailants reached there.

Nawada SP Hari Prasath S said the assailants were in the age group of 20 and 25 years. Vijay’s mother was also killed in 2017.

According to the SP, the family members of the deceased apprehended the involvement of six people, including Bhola Yadav as Vijay had refused to follow the diktat of his uncle to turn hostile in a murder case trial.

“This could be one of the reasons behind Vijay’s murder. Besides, there is an old dispute over property between Bhola and the deceased’s father Sunil Yadav, stated to be residents of Songowar village in Nawada district,” the SP said over phone.

A police officer posted at Mufassil police station said Bhola was lodged in the Nawada district jail in connection with a murder case. He has been accused of hatching a conspiracy from behind the bars. “Raids are on to arrest the six named accused,” he added.

A group of local residents, including the deceased’s relatives, took out a protest march and blocked the road near Prajatantra Chowk for about half an hour to vent their ire against the daylight murder. They demanded immediate arrest of the culprits.

The police, however, have failed to arrest any of the six named accused in the case. The body was handed over to the family members are postmortem.
