Rahul Gandhi in Amethi; Smriti too had made Amethi her home after losing last time

New Delhi, July 10

: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is doing exactly what Union Minister Smriti Irani had done after she lost in Amethi last time. Though Rahul Gandhi made a trip to Wayanad just weeks after winning from there, he is visiting Amethi now. 

Rahul Gandhi had won Amethi Lok Sabha seat for three consecutive terms between 2004 and 2019 and this seat was always considered a safe one for the Gandhi family.

After losing in Amethi Smriti Irani had spent substantial time in Amethi, thereby winning hearts of the locals there.

Rahul Gandhi is visiting Amethi Wednesday, his first after losing the parliamentary constituency to Union minister Smriti Irani in this general election, to ascertain the cause of his defeat, party sources said.

Rahul Gandhi met workers of the Congress party in Amethi. 

Rahul, who has stepped down as Congress President, was in Amethi on Wednesday, and held a closed-door meeting with party workers.

During his visit, Gandhi also met party representatives, including booth presidents of five assembly segments-- Salon, Amethi, Gauriganj, Jagdishpur, and Tiloi, party sources said.

After Gandhi's defeat, his representative Chandrakant Dubey and district president Yogendra Mishra have resigned.

The Gandhi scion will meet party workers at Nirmala Devi Educational Institute in Gauriganj.

In a historic poll battle, Irani defeated Gandhi in his bastion by more than 52,000 votes.

Gandhi represented the Amethi Lok Sabha seat since 1999. He is currently a Member of Parliament from Wayanad constituency in Kerala.
