Raipur: 21-year-old girl loses eye to stone pelting

RAIPUR: A 21-year-old girl lost her eye to stone-pelting last week. The victim was travelling from Raipur to Durg in Intercity Express when some unidentified miscreants started throwing stones near Dabarapara, after the train passed Bhilai-3 railway station, said GRP.

According to Government Railway Police (GRP), at about 6:30pm on last Friday, Vaishali Dewangan (21), d/o Ramkumar Dewangan , a resident of Shardapara , Camp-II, Bhilai was travelling from Raipur to Durg by Intercity Express when some unidentified miscreants pelted stones near Dabarapara, after the train passed Bhilai-3 railway station.



In the incident, the victim identified as Vaishali Dewangan, sustained grievous injuries in her right eye and nose and bled profusely. After the train reached Durg, she was immediately taken to a district Hospital in Durg from where she was shifted to AIIMS, Raipur. Owing to grave injuries, she lost her right eye.

The gravel stones thrown at the victim must have hit her hard as the train was in speed, said the railway police. The GRP registered the case against unidentified accused under section 336 of Indian Penal Code for throwing stone and causing serious injury to a person. Investigation is underway to track down the culprits.

After information a RPF team rushed to Dabarapara, Bhilai-3 and interrogated the people from the area and adjoining places.

The area is surrounded by slums and RPF officials and personnel appealed the people not to indulge in any such mischievous acts.

The force officials and personnel are maintaining vigil for curbing repetition of such incident and also for nabbing the culprits, asserted Inspector, Verma.
