Raipur youngsters hit the green gym to set new health goals

The latest initiative by Raipur Municipal Corporation (RMC) of setting up new gyms inside various city gardens is getting a wonderful response and a lot of youngsters are making a beeline for the same these days.
Besides being an eco-friendly option, it is free of cost as well, and this is the reason why many people are hitting these green gyms.

Student of computer science, Ashish Verma, who is a regular at the green gym opposite Telibandha Lake , says, “I go there early in the morning. Instead of working out in a claustrophobic gym with heavy equipment, exercising in the fresh air is any day better and far more refreshing. Hitting the green gym has become a part of my fitness regime now; my friends and I do warm-up exercises there every day after which we play cricket at the ground.”
Green gyms have been put up in more than 33 gardens across Raipur including Telibandha Lake Garden, Tilak Nagar Garden, Shankar Nagar garden, Ravi Nagar, Collectorate Colony, etc. “There is equipment for cardio, push-ups and abs,” says commerce student, Suraj Ahuja, who regularly exercises at Dubey Colony’s green gym. He adds, “This gym is for attaining basic fitness. It won’t help you get six pack abs. Though it is not a replacement for the indoor gym, it is fun to exercise amidst the greenery. I prefer going there in the evening; those 20 minutes also help de-stress me.”
After a tiring day at work, it is very difficult to drive to a gym, shares young entrepreneur Ashwini Shukla, adding, “Because the green gym is very close to my house, I can go there whenever I’m free. It saves not only my time but also offers plenty of respite from exercising with those heavy machines at an indoor gym.”
