Rajasthan BJP wants eight candidates banned from local body polls

JAIPUR: Rajasthan BJP has demanded disqualification of eight candidates contesting the local body polls for violating rules .

BJP's legal cell has submitted evidence to the state election commission against the candidates for violating the restriction of two-child norm. Surendra Singh Naruka, a BJP legal cell number told TOI, "The successful nomination of these candidates raises questions on the election commission for clearing them to contest.

Also, it indicates the involvement of state government in the polls."

Naruka added that even after presenting evidence of violation by these candidates, the silence of the election commission is unfortunate.

"Our party has presented detailed evidence against these candidates, but the returning officer has not even bothered to seek a reply from them. The party will not leave the issue and even after the polls, we will push the case democratically," said Naruka. These candidates are contesting polls in Bikaner , Barmer and Nagaur. The cell has asked its unit members in to cross check all winning candidates' credentials as they are anticipating more such candidates who have violated the rules.

Anticipating misuse of state machinery, BJP has formed a control room connected with sub-control rooms in all 49 poll-bound urban local bodies. "The way the Congress had misused the state machinery during the Lok Sabha electionsd and the assembly bypolls, it is clear that they will repeat the same in the local body polls. Our party will respond to any such attempt by the Congress," said Vimal Katiyar, coordinator, BJP media cell Rajasthan. The party's formed control room will have legal cell members who will file the complaint with a recorded testimony of their office bearers.
