Rajasthan: Truck mows down transport department guard in Bhilwara

Jaipur: A transport department guard was mowed down a by speeding truck on Tuesday morning in Bhilwara during checking of the vehicles. The guard died on the spot and the truck driver fled from the spot.

The deceased guard was identified as 44-year-old Rupa Kathat who was an ex-serviceman and hailed from Beawar.

The incident happened on NH-79. Bhopal Singh, assistant sub inspector, Pur police station told TOI, “The incident happened around 8:30 am when an official of transport department and two guards were checking the vehicles. Kathat was crossing the service-lane when a speeding truck rammed into him. This is a case of hit and run.” The guard was rushed to the nearest hospital but succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment. “The truck driver fled from the and since the others were busy in taking care of the guard, none of them saw the license plate number. We are investigating the matter and will look at CCTV footage as well to identify the vehicle and the drive. He will be arrested soon. He was at such a high speed on service lane which is narrower than usual road that he could not control his vehicle or apply brakes in time to prevent hitting Kathat,” added Singh.

The deceased’s family was informed and they reached the mortuary where his body was kept and after autopsy, was handed over to them. A case of negligent driving, culpable homicide not amounting to murder and other IPC sections was registered.
