Rajkot: Notorious truck thief arrested

Rajkot: A thief who targeted trucks parked on the highway to commit thefts was arrested from Viramgam Hospital on Sunday.

Police received a tip-off that the accused, identified as Firozkhan Malek, had come to Viramgam Hospital for getting some injury treated following which they nabbed him from there.

“During his interrogation Malek said that he would climb parked trucks with a cutter and after tearing off the tarpaulin would steal goods stored inside the truck. He confessed to 21 such thefts, including those that he committed by climbing onto moving trucks,” said R B Devata, Dhrangadhra deputy superintendent of police.

During his interrogation, Malek revealed the names of his gang members — Ali Dafer, Wasimkhan Malek, Hanifkhan Malek and Hajratkhan Malek.

The truck thefts were reported from Rajkot, Ahmedabad, Viramgam and Mehsana and Kutch.
