PALANPUR: A school teacher was sentenced to 10 years in prison for raping his 16-year-old student by a special POCSO court judge in Deodar taluka of Banaskantha on Thursday.
Additional session judge PT Patel also imposed fine of Rs 11,000 on the teacher Chanbu Bhagora (30) who was convicted under IPC Section 376 and under Pocso Act. The court condemned the heinous act. “Such a shameful act is a black spot on the society and pious relationship between a teacher and a student,” the court observed.
“The accused was a teacher in a village high school about 10 km from Deodar town. The survivor was studying in class VIII, when the incident took place,” said DV Thakor, additional public persecutor, Deodar.
The incident took place on August 2, 2017 when the survivor was on her way to school. Bhagora abducted the minor on after luring her and took her to an isolated place and raped her. After reaching home the girl told her family about her ordeal.
