Ranchi: Man gets 12-year rigorous imprisonment for raping minor in Gumla

GUMLA: A Pocso court here on Saturday sentenced a 30-year-old rape convict to 12 years rigorous imprisonment . Judge Lolark Dubey also fined the convict, Pradeep Giri, an amount of Rs 10,000.


The case dates back to February when Giri raped a 15-year-old girl at gunpoint twice under Sisai police station area here.



According to the FIR filed with the mahila police station in Sisai, the girl had gone for defecation on the morning of February 2, 2017, when Giri groped and raped her at gunpoint. The girl's parents are migrant workers and they were in Himachal Pradesh at the time of the incident. The girl and her younger sister were alone at their house. Giri again committed the crime on April 17 of the same year after barging into her house.

After the second incident, the girl narrated her ordeal to her aunty, who informed other relatives and called the girl's parents back home. Her father lodged a complaint on June 14 and an FIR was filed under sections 3 and 4 of Pocso Act.

Additional public prosecutor Champa Kumari said, "The court sentenced 12 years rigorous imprisonment to the convict under various sections of IPC and Pocso Act and imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 and said he will have to undergo six months' additional imprisonment, if fails to pay it."
