Rape accused drinks poison fearing arrest

Kota: An absconding 25-year-old man, accused of raping a minor, on Sunday consumed a poison when police reached his brother-in-law’s house in Borkhedi village under Sunel police station in Jhalawar district where he was hiding. He was rushed to the district hospital where he is undergoing treatment. His condition is stated to be out of danger.



Raghuraj Singh, a native of Khemlakhedi village in Ujjain district (Madhya Pradesh), was wanted in a rape case and POCSO court -3 had issued a warrant against him on Sanganer police station’s plea, said Sunel SHO Jitendra Singh Shekhwat.

As soon as Raghuraj came to know that Sanganer police had reached the village to arrest him, he consumed poison and surrendered, the SHO said. He began vomiting and was rushed to the district hospital. The Pocso court warrant bore the residential address of rape accused’s father, who lives in a slum area in Ramganjmandi of Kota district, the SHO said. tnn
