Ravidassia groups' bid to gherao minister's house in Phagwara foiled

PHAGWARA: Ravidassia/Adidharmi community groups, who wanted to gherao Union minister Som Parkash's residence in Urban Estate area of Phagwara , were stopped by the police a little distance away and had to give up the idea after about three hours of waiting.


Earlier, they had gathered in the lawns of the PWD rest house, from where they proceeded towards the minister's residence.

However, police deployment ensured that they could not reach the minister's residence. The groups had announced to gherao the minister's residence over the issue of demolition of Ravidas temple at Tughlaqabad in Delhi.

Meanwhile, the minister said the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was being wrongly targeted by the vested groups and that he was already working to find out a legal and workable solution to get the temple reconstructed at the same place.
