Rebel leader's son, bride flaunt automatic rifles at wedding reception, case filed

Guwahati: A recent wedding in Dimapur, Nagaland is in the news because the groom and the bride were seen holding automatic assault rifles in their hands. The wedding ceremony was the son of a senior leader of the Naga rebel organization NSCN-U. Nagaland police have now registered a case against them for violation of the ceasefire agreement.

Dimapur Police Commissioner Rotihu Testo has said, 'A case has been registered in this case. We are investigating, taking action in view of the violation of the ceasefire agreement. It was wedding of the son of Bohoto Kiba, leader of the Naga rebel organization. The wedding took place on 9 November in Dimapur, his son and daughter-in-law were seen carrying an M16 and an AK56 rifle. Their photos were also going viral on social media.

Significantly, NSCN-U is having peace talks with the central government. Under this, there is a ceasefire agreement between the two sides. Under this, people of this organization cannot go out of their camps with weapons. In addition, public display of illegal weapons is also prohibited under the Arms Act 1959. The police have registered a case of violation of the ceasefire agreement as the NSCN-U has a cease-fire agreement with the Center.
