Agartala, May 12 (UNI) Repoll to 168 polling stations of 1679 in West Tripura parliamentary constituency was peaceful today that recorded 72.32 per cent polling.

Though opposition CPI (M) and Congress raised an allegation of threat and intimidation to the voters in few areas, ECI claimed it satisfactory.

The opposition CPI (M) alleged that its voters have received threats from the ruling party cadres since last night in several locations in Mohanpur, Jirania, Bishalgarh and Sonamura.

The opposition supporters have been asked to abstain from voting in repoll.

The, however, expressed happiness over the arrangement of ECI and said except a few incidents of intimidation and subversive attempts to create panic, the election was peaceful. The CEO also claimed satisfaction over the conduct of repoll in West Tripura.

ECI had declared the voting held in these polling stations void based on reports submitted by Chief Electoral Officer, Special Observer and Returning Officer of West Tripura. However, opposition CPI (M) and Congress have moved separately to Supreme Court against ECI decision of holding repoll in 168 booths whereas RO in his report had mentioned that polling process was vitiated in 433 booths.

The Congress sought fresh poll in the constituency and also asked CEO to provide the video footage of those 433 booths, which would be submitted to the court as evidence.
