Revised plan for Noida-Ghaziabad metro corridor ready

GHAZIABAD: The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) on Tuesday submitted a revised detailed project report (DPR) for a further extension of the Blue Line — the metro phase 3 corridor (Noida Electronic City-Mohan Nagar).

According to the report, the total cost of this line connecting Noida and Ghaziabad has been pegged at Rs 1,866 crore with six stations planned.

The DPR also includes another line, extending the Blue Line in Ghaziabad from Vaishali to Vasundhara Sector 2 — which has been termed phase 4— and work will be taken up after completion of the phase 3 project. “DMRC has submitted a revised DPR for metro phase 3 line and as per the DPR, it will have six stations — Vaibhav Khand, DPS Indirapuram, Shakti Khand, Vasundhra Sector 5, Vasundhara Sector 2 and Mohan Nagar,” said Kanchan Verma, the vice-chairperson, Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA).

“The cost of the corridor has been pegged at Rs 1,866 crore and the length of the corridor will be 5.91km from Noida Electronic City (Sector 62),” he added. In February last year, the DMRC had submitted the first DPR for the proposed metro extensions in Ghaziabad, from Noida Electronic City to Sahibabad. But after deliberations, the GDA decided to extend the line to Mohan Nagar, which necessitated a revised DPR.

According to the old DPR, the length of the corridor was 5.11km and it had four stations. The estimated cost of the project was Rs 1,926 crore. In the the revised DPR, the cost has been brought down by Rs 60 crore. Verma added that the DMRC has also submitted a revised DPR for the Vaishali to Vasundhara Sector 2 line.
The cost has been pegged at Rs 1,438 crore and the corridor will have three stations — Prahladgarhi, Vasundhara Sector 14 and Sahibabad. “But we will be taking up work on the Noida Electronic City-Mohan Nagar stretch first because the NCRTC will be taking up work close to the phase 4 metro corridor and we do not want the work to coincide, as that will create problems for the commuters,” said Verma.

The GDA had urged the DMRC to include a provision for feeder buses in its revised DPR for the Noida Electronic City to Mohan Nagar route under the phase 3 project.

The DMRC, however, had reminded the GDA that it does not provide feeder bus services in areas other than Delhi. According to sources, the GDA will push for the same funding pattern that had been adopted for the Dilshad Garden-New Bus Stand metro corridor.
