Rise in number of drug peddlers' arrest in Ludhiana

LUDHIANA: The number of drug peddlers arrested has witnessed a two-fold rise since the imposition of model code of conduct in Ludhiana.


The model code of conduct came into force on March 10. And in these two months, the Ludhiana range of STF has arrested 44 drug peddlers in 26 cases. Besides, the STF has also arrested three proclaimed offenders.



The Ludhiana STF has recovered 18.127 kg heroin , 65 kg poppy husk, 5.75 kg opium, 13,142 intoxicating tablets, syrups and capsules and Rs 2.3 lakh drug money. As per data from January 10 to March 9, STF had arrested only 16 drug peddlers in 11cases and had recovered 1.555 kg heroin, 1.9 kg poppy husk and 21 kg cannabis.

Harbans Singh, in-charge, STF Ludhiana range, said, “Tarn Taranbased drug peddlers were held with 2.3kg heroin worth Rs 11.5 crore in international market. Two more from Makhu, Ferozepur, were held with 1.3 kg heroin who had traveled 112 km on their bike with contraband. Now STF teams are tracing other peddlers linked with arrested accused.”
