Robots to treat orthopedic patients at Tirupati hospital

Hyderabad: Robots will render physiotherapy, massage and treatment services to the orthopedic patients at the Balaji Institute of Surgery, Research and Rehabilitation for the Disabled (BIRRD) hospital, run by the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams(TTD) in Tirupati.

The BIRRD management claims that this is the first of its kind service in South Asia.



This hi-fi therapy is aimed at providing sophisticated treatment to patients by the 21st-century model Robots in all TTD hospitals, initially to start with BIRRD Hospital, a TTD release said.

The BIRRD trust committee meeting under the chairmanship of TTD Board chief YV Subba Reddy approved the proposal to call for tenders and purchase a Robot-Assisted Gait Training Therapy Equipment costing Rs 5.5 crore.

The TTD trust has also decided that its employees and pensioners could avail cashless services and also get medical reimbursements from the TTD as per their eligibility.

The committee approved the purchase of 2D colour Doppler equipment to test the blood circulation in the body. It also advised the officials to opt for donors who could provide those equipments.
