Rs 57.10 lakh in cash seized in Dimapur

GUWAHATI: Directorate of Investigation of Income Tax, North East Region (NER) seized Rs. 57.10 lakh cash as undisclosed money.

In an official communique, Directorate of Investigation of Income Tax said, “On intimation from the state’s election monitoring authorities of Nagaland about interception of substantial amount of cash by a patrol of Assam Rifles, the Surveillance Team of Investigation Directorate set up in Dimapur responded immediately.

After consulting local authorities, the person apprehended with the cash was interrogated till late evening of Thursday by sleuths of Investigation Directorate. Investigation Directorate made a seizure of Rs 57.10 lakh cash as undisclosed money. This is the biggest cash seizure by Investigation Directorate in the region so far since notification of general elections.”

With the model code of conduct in place, Election Commission is keeping a tight vigil on the expenditure by political parties.
