Sacrilege SIT member accuses SAD chief of threatening him

BATHINDA: With the special investigations team (SIT) investigating cases of sacrilege and police action at Kotkapura and Behbal Kalan on October 14, 2015 having summoned former Akali MLA Mantar Brar, a war of words has broken out between senior SIT member and IG Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh and SAD chief Sukhbir Badal .

The IG has accused Sukhbir of making personal attacks on him and putting a question mark on his integrity and impartiality. “We have made investigations in a highly professional manner but Sukhbir Badal is making a wild attack on me regarding investigations by SIT, which is not true. SIT is ready to work in-camera as well. The in-camera investigations can put to rest any complaints regarding the working of SIT”. He added that he do not deem it fit to react to the allegations being made by SAD MLA Bikram Majithia and declined to speak further on the issue.

Refuting the senior police officer’s charges, Sukhbir, who was in Barnala , said on Wednesday, “I have not ever threatened him. I had only reminded him of his duty as a SIT member. I wanted him to do fair investigations and not target the Akalis on political considerations. I never have seen an investigations officer hold press conferences, midway through any probe, just to target Akalis.”

Sukhbir further claimed that Congress leaders were demanding the arrest of certain persons and Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh had arrested them, which clearly showed that something was fishy and politically motivated. Sukhbir and Majithia have accused SIT of working in a partial manner against SAD and have announced to boycott it.
