SAD (Taksali) picks up 1973 Anandpur Sahib resolution as main policy document

Jalandhar: Shiromani Akali Dal (Taksali) has said Anandpur Sahib Resolution of 1973 will be the basis for their policy programme and they would also call a meeting of Sikh intellectuals to further deliberate on it.

“The original resolution of 1973 — and not the Ludhiana Conference resolution of 1978 — will be the basis of our policy programme.

As a lot of things have happened since then, we will call a meeting of the Sikh intellectuals to make any amendments in the resolution,” said SAD Taksali leader Sewa Singh Sekhwan, while being flanked by party president Ranjit Singh Brahmpura and other senior leaders Bir Devinder Singh and Dr. Ratan Singh Ajnala. Earlier, the party held its meeting.

Meanwhile, the party leaders said as Punjab has no water to share, this should be dealt with seriously. “Earlier, distribution of river water was an issue, but now Punjab is facing the question of availability of water. Our groundwater level is critical and Punjab is at the brink of turning desert. We can’t allow any decision to divert remaining water from Punjab rivers to other states,” Taksali leaders said.

Sekhwan said a delegation of the party would also meet home minister Amit Shah to urge him to hold SGPC election as these had already been delayed.

Takes dig at LIP

Sekhwan also took dig at Lok Insaaf Party (LIP) MLA Simarjeet Singh Bains for asking SAD (Taksali) to merge the latter in former’s party. “Akali dal is a century-old party and has a great legacy. Bains’ party was born only recently and his invitation smacks of sheer arrogance. If Bains brothers are sincere then they should become part of SAD (Taksali),” Sekhwan said.
