VIJAYAWADA: The sand transportation in the state would be under the CCTV scanner at several places. The video footage of these cameras would be constantly monitored and any unauthorized movement would be stopped.

Chief minister Y S Jaganmohan Reddy told the officials to open special sand yards for bulk users like builders.
The chief minister told the officials to identify the builders who are active in construction activity and locate the area where the work is in progress. He also told the officials to keep posting information about sand availability to builders and have better coordination with them.

The chief minister also told the officials to open check-posts at various places to monitor the movement of vehicles carrying sand. This would also check the unauthorized transportation, he said.

On availability and consumption in the state, the officials told the chief minister that there is 23,000 metric tonnes of sand available per day, while the requirement is around 10,000 to 12,000 metric tonnes. They said that the requirement is calculated based on the sale of cement in the state.

The chief minister told the officials to increase the number of stockyard points and ensure that the people do not face any hardship due to non-availability of sand. He said that as the government is working to eliminate corruption in sand quarrying and supply, criticism would be more from different quarters. He cautioned them that several people would be closely watching the sand movement only to criticize the government and asked them to be careful.
