Sangareddy ranks 2nd in jobs to daily workers

Sangareddy: The district stood second place, only next to Nalgonda, in providing employment to daily workers. According to the statistics of employment guarantee scheme, works of various activities are initiated in some 422 villages out of 461 in 19 mandals. As many as 20,684 people are engaged in the works. Earlier, the works were confined to limited activities like digging tanks, desiltation etc., but now, long-term works are also being taken up with an aim to increase the number of jobs.

Constructions of dump yards, farm ponds, cattle sheds, burial grounds, toilets in schools, vermicompost sheds and water harvesting pits etc., are being taken up under the scheme. Almost 18,326 water harvesting pits are completed out of 54, 000 pits sanctioned for the district.

As many as 1.23 lakh people from 73,498 families were provided employment in the financial year. Nearly 5,302 people were given 100 days of work. Rs 74.85 crore was spent for wages and Rs 16.51 crore was spent for tools. Right from the beginning of the scheme, some 2, 17,865 job cards have been issued.

To utilise the scheme more effectively, the government has decided to grow nurseries at villages. As many as 647 panchayats will soon get nurseries. Officials have decided to plant about 2.20 crore saplings in the coming year.
