Sarpanch convention held in Rajouri

In order to sensitise the people and to discourage them from using single use plastic and to generate mass awareness in this regard,the District administration Rajouri today conducted a major convention of all the sarpanches at Dakbanglow Rajouri,where District Development Commissioner Rajouri,Mohammad Aijaz Asad addressed the convention. 

The convention was attended by Assistant Commissioner Development, Akhtar Qazi, Additional Superintendent of Police Liaqat Choudhary, District Panchayat Officer,Dr.Abdul Khabir and all the sarpanches of the district.


During the welcome address by District Panchayat Officer,he highlighted the importance big conducting of sarpanch convention on single use plastic free District.He said the main objective of this is to disseminate the message of single use plastic free Rajouri at the grass root level.He said that the District could be made single use plastic free only when the panchayats would become free from single use plastic.


He also briefed about the schedule of the programmes at panchayats level during the campaign, preparation and awareness generation will be organised from September 11 to October 01, 2019, while collection of plastic waste will be conducted on Oct 2, 2019 and disposal of plastic waste on scientific lines will commence from October 3 and continue till October 27, 2019.


Assistant Commissioner Development Akhtar Qazi also spoke on the occasion and highlighted the effects of polythene/Plastic on the human lives.He said the plastic is made up of ethylene which is a cancer causing agent.He advised the sarpanches to motivate the people to shun the use of plastic made items.He advised them to adopt the alternate material like jute and other biodegradable materials.


Additional Superintendent of Police Liaqat Choudhary also spoke on the occasion and said we are accustomed with the Plastic and this habit needs to be changed for a better future.He said plastic is non biodegradable and major cause of the soil and water pollution.


District Development Commissioner Rajouri Mohammad Aijaz Asad while speaking on the occasion called sarpanchs the "Ambassadors of  Development ''. He said that plastic has not only entered the house of urban dwellers but we also find its indiscriminate use in rural areas.He said the sarpanches have the capability to motivate and aware the people about the hazards of the plastic.He asked the sarpanches to make the panchayats free from single use plastic.


DDC urged all the sarpanches of Rajouri district to participate in this Jan Andolan Campaign and emphasised for ensuring maximum awareness among the public about the harmful effects of single use plastic especially the single use plastic which is emerging as one of the leading pollutants.He also announced that a Panchayat that will collect the maximum quantity of single use plastic waste and implement it in the Panchayat will be awarded as green panchayt at a function to be held on the 2nd of October.He advised the sarpanches to work with new vision and a new approach so that the concept bod decentralised planning could be realised.In the end DDC also urged the sarpanches to make the panchayats tobacco free as well.DDC also congratulated the sarpanch of Panchayat Langer for making the panchayat Tobacco free.
