Satna rape and murder: Police clueless after 48 hours

BHOPAL: More than 48 hours on, police remain clueless about the accused in the rape and murder of a 12-year-old girl in Satna district . On Monday evening, the minor was raped, strangulated and attacked with a sharp-edged weapon in a village under district’s Amdara police station . A case against an unidentified accused was registered by the police with investigations underway.

“We have rounded up some suspects and investigations are going on. It is a remote village and there was a storm in the area when the incident took place and it led to a power cut. It is suspected that some local person is involved, as the younger sister of the deceased had gone out when there was a power cut and the accused probably saw that,” SP Satna Riyaz Iqbal said. “Our forensic teams have also found DNA evidence,” he added.

It is noteworthy that the parents of the deceased girl were not at home when the incident took place, said sources. Her father works as a labourer in Katni while the mother had gone to her parents house in Maihar, added sources. The girl was alone with her nine-year-old sister, sources said. It was later in the evening that the body was seen by neighbours who then informed the father who rushed to the spot late in the night and also informed her mother, said sources.
