Sawhney takes charge as chief secy

Amaravati: Nilam Sawhney , a 1984-batch IAS officer, has assumed charge as chief secretary on Thursday.

Nilam, who worked as secretary in the Union social justice ministry, came back to the state cadre only two days ago. She is the first woman CS of residuary state of AP. In-charge chief secretary and chief commissioner of land administration (CCLA) Nirabh Kumar Prasad handed over the charge to Nilam in the Secretariat.



Speaking to the media, Nilam expressed her happiness on coming back to the state and taking over the reins of the state administration. She said that she was confident of taking the state towards growth corridor under the leadership of chief minister Y S Jaganmohan Reddy.

She said she would set her focus more on education, health and agriculture sectors.

She said she started her career as sub-collector in Machilipatnam in Krishna district and it was a pleasure to become the CS.

Nilam previously worked as Nalgonda district collector and secretary in municipal administration, R&B, women and child welfare, MD, Sports Authority of AP in undivided state before moving to the Centre on deputation. The chief secretary later called on the CM at his camp office in Tadepalle.
