School van crushes boy to death in Tamil Nadu

ARIYALUR: A two-year-old boy was crushed to death by a school van at Thirukkalappur in Ariyalur district of Tamil Nadu on Monday morning.

The deceased has been identified as M Raghul, son of Manikandan of Mariamman Temple Street at Thirukkalappur.

The van belonging to Annai Treasa Primary School at Periyakrishnapuram came to the area arounf 8.50am to pick up students.

The boy was standing with his mother watching the students boarding the van. Suddenly, he ran towards the vehicle. He came under a rear wheel of the vehicle while the van started moving. He died on the spot.

On being informed, the Aandimadam police rushed to the spot and retrieved the body. It was sent to the government hospital in Aandimadam for postmortem.

The police arrested van driver R Rajadurai, 35, of Periyakrishnapuram.
