Schoolboy among 3 shot at in Bankura

Bankura: A school student and two others were shot at as Trinamool Congress and BJP supporters clashed in Bankura’s Patrasayar on Saturday night, sending ripples in Bengal political circles after the continuing violence in Bhatpara, Sandeskhali and Cooch Behar.

Tapas Bauri, Michael Bauri and Kulu Khan were admitted to Bankura Medical College with bullet injuries.

BJP accused cops of opening fire though Bankura Police denied the charge.

Trouble began when BJP supporters shouted ‘Jai Sri Ram’ as Trinamool Jansanjog Yatra was passi-ng by Kankardanga. Transport minister Suvendu Adhikary, who was leading the rally, had left by then.

In retaliation, TMC supporters ransacked BJP local president Tamal Bhuin’s shop. BJP supporters came to his aid and clashed with the TMC men. Police could do little to end the pitched battle. According to BJP Bankura MP Subhas Sarkar, police opened fire. “I am on the way to Bankura Medical College,” Sarkar said. BJP supporters collected the used cartridges from the spot.

Trinamool’s Bankura organising president Shyamal Santra, however, said he had no clue about the police firing. “I have no information. Let me check what has happened,” he said.
