MANGALURU: District authorities declared a holiday for schools and PU colleges in Dakshina Kannada on Saturday as the Indian Meteorological Department announced a red alert in the region.
The IMD predicted the coastal region may receive over 200mm rainfall from Saturday to Monday. It also predicted heavy rain in interior parts of the region.
Deputy commissioner S Sasikanth Senthil said, “Parents should not allow children to go to low-lying areas. Children should also be prevented from going near rivers and the sea shore. Fishermen should avoid venturing into the sea. All district and taluk officials should be present in their respective jurisdictions to monitor the situation.”
