'SC's decision on temple gives us hope'

Kochi: Jacobite faction of the Malankara Church on Friday came out with a statement saying that the SC’s Sabarimala decision on Thursday makes them hopeful about a reconsideration in the verdict against them in the church dispute.

“The Jacobite-Orthodox issue is not a property dispute, but an issue based on belief systems.

Our issue is that the rival faction is ignoring the leadership of the Patriarch of Antioch and that we can’t accept their priests who don’t have the blessing of the Patriarch. Since, a question was raised on the extent a court can interfere in matters of faith, I hope that our issue would also be reconsidered,” said Kuriakose Mar Theophilose, the spokesperson of the Jacobite church.

He added that the dispute has remained unresolved as it is a matter of faith.
