SDRF team rescues coronavirus patients from flood-affected area in Assam's Nagaon

Guwahati/IBNS: A lady and her son who tested positive for COVID-19 were rescued by a team of SDRF and health official from a flood-affected area in Assams Nagaon district.

The COVID-19 patient and her son were later admitted at a hospital in Nagaon.

The incident took place at Kampur area where over 20,000 people have been affected in the first wave of floods.

According to the reports, a 37-year-old woman named Mamomi Das reached at Puthimari area under Kampur revenue circle with her family members from Maharashtra via train on May 25.

The local administration put the lady and other family members to institutional quarantine at Puthimari LP School.

During the period, the entire Puthimari area was badly affected by flood and the waters submerged all connecting roads of the area.

On June 2, the lady and her son were tested positive for the virus while they were at the quarantine centre.

The local administration was planning to shift the lady and her son from the quarantine centre to COVID-19 hospital, but floods had obstructed the entire planning.

Later, a team of SDRF and some health officials reached the quarantine centre and took away the lady and her son to a nearby highway by using a rubber boat in the flood situation.

The village headman of Puthimari area said that a team of SDRF and health officials have rescued the lady and her son in this situation, who were tested positive for COVID-19.

Assam has so far reported 1877 positive cases for COVID-19.
