Seven including six minors drown in separate incidents in Begusarai

BEGUSARAI: Six children and a woman drowned in two separate incidents in Begusarai district on Sunday.


The first incident took place at Gehuni Mojahidpur village under the Bhagwanpur police station area where three children went to take a dip in Balan river. Guriya Khatoon (13), Hema Parween (10) along with Roshni Khatoon went deep while taking bath in the river and started drowning.

Hearing their cries for help, a few villagers jumped into the river but only Roshni could be saved. Though, the villagers managed to take the other two children out of the river but they could not be saved.

In another incident, three children and a woman drowned in a deep ditch dug for construction work in a low land area submerged in water under Garhpura police station. Sources said the area called Sahar Chaur gets submerged during monsoon . Khushboo (15), Sulekha (13), Sumit Kumar (13) along with Soni Devi (22) had gone to collect snails there and fell in a deep ditch in the submerged area. The ditch had been dug for some construction work and the deceased failed to spot it.
