Several Godhra residents stuck in Pakistan

VADODARA: Around 80 people from Godhra have been stranded in Pakistan after suspension of transport services between the two countries as tensions escalated in the wake of scrapping of J&K's special status. Majority of them had gone to Karachi to meet relatives, but they have been forced to stay back as train and bus services stand suspended.

Locals in Godhra said many were not allowed to cross the Wagah border into India.

On Sunday, 15 persons whose relatives are stranded in Pakistan approached Panchmahal police for help.

Mehboob Shaburiya, who lives in Polan Bazaar, returned home before Thar Express was suspended till further orders on August 16. However, his 60-year-old mother Jamila was not that lucky.

"My mother was to return on August 12 through Wagah border. When she reached there, the Pakistani authorities did not allow her to cross over," he said.
