Several officials undergo Covid-19 test ahead of Tamil Nadu CM's visit to Madurai, Tirunelveli

MADURAI: Several government officials and employees and AIADMK functionaries and cadre in Madurai and Tirunelveli underwent Covid-19 test on Wednesday ahead of chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami’s visit to the two districts to review Covid-19 preparedness on Thursday and Friday, respectively.

In Madurai, more than 100 officials, including the district collector, underwent Covid-19 test.

The attenders who will be assisting the officials at the meeting hall were also tested.

Cooks and other staff members at the circuit house have also been tested to avoid any chance of the CM contracting the virus.

Officials in the Madurai Corporation and police personnel who will be in the close circle on protection, party functionaries and MLAs were also tested.

“On a priority basis, the result for those who will be engaged on the CM visit will be given by tonight,” an official told TOI.

More than 75 AIADMK functionaries underwent the test in Tirunelveli. “We will get the result on Thursday morning. Only those who test negative will be allowed to meet the CM on Friday,” Nanguneri MLA A Narayanan said.
