Shani Jayanti: Know the birth story of Lord Shani
Shani Dev has been given the title of a judge in the scriptures. He is the one who keeps an account of all our actions. He gives the fruits of actions to every person. The Amavasya of Jyeshtha month i.e. his birth anniversary is being celebrated today and it is told in religious traditions that Shani Dev was born on this day.
According to Skanda Purana, King Daksha's daughter Sangya was married to Suryadev. Suryadev's glory was too much for which Sangya was worried. Suryadev and Sangya had three children Manu, Yamraj and Yamuna. But Sangya was afraid of him. In order to reduce the intensity of the Sun, Sangya created his own prodigy and went to his father's house by handing over the responsibility of taking care of the children to her. When she refused to accompany her father, she took the form of a mare and went to the forest to do penance. Chaya also did not have any problem with the sun's sharpness due to the shadow form. The union of Surya and Chaya again had 3 children - Manu, Shanidev and Bhadra.
It is told in the Bahmapuran that Shani Dev was black in colour due to being the son of Chhaya, then his father Suryadev suspected that Shanidev is not his son and he accused Chaya that he is not his son. Hearing this, Shanidev got very angry and when he looked at his father with anger, he also became black due to his influence. When Suryadev realized his mistake, he apologized and then Surya got his true form.
