Shimla: Hail, rain lash Kullu, peaks get more snow

MANALI: Hailstorm and torrential rains lashed many parts of Kullu while fresh snowfall on the peaks forced temperature to dip drastically on Thursday.

Hawai, Shiah, Shillihar and upper reaches of Garhsa valley were hit by hailstones for over 30 minutes. Most parts of the district received torrential rains in the afternoon that continued till late evening.

The higher reaches have again worn a white mantle.

Meanwhile, the temperature has dipped suddenly and people have had to switch to room heaters.

The Pir Panjal and Dhauladhar mountain ranges, including Rohtang pass , have received more snow . As the western disturbances are approaching the state, the met department has predicted thundershowers and snowfall in isolated areas in mid and high hills of the state in the next 24 hours.

The Manali administration has requested people not to go towards Rohtang pass until the weather conditions improve. Manali sub-divisional magistrate Raman Gharsangi said the administration is keeping an eye on the weather, and traffic on Manali-Rohtang highway would be stopped if it snows here. “If weather is inclement, we shall not take any risks. Sudden snowfall may trap the tourists. The road becomes extremely slippery after snowfall. Traffic movement will totally depend on the weather conditions,” he said.
