Shop owners' scuffle creates tense situation in Mandi Mohalla

MYSURU: A scuffle between members of two different communities running business in ‘communally sensitive’ Mandi Mohalla that broke late on Sunday over the issue of parking vehicles in front of their shops, has created tense situation in the locality with police beefing up security in the area.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (law and order) M Muthuraju on Monday held a peace committee meeting with leaders from the both the communities and directed them to maintain peace and not to drag the issue and create unnecessary trouble.

Muthuraju said the leaders have agreed to maintain peace.

The DCP, however, explained that it was a minor scuffle between the two shop owners. One of them runs a non-vegetarian hotel while another textile shop. Their shops are located on a busy stretch in Mandi Mohalla. Since there is problem over parking space , the shop owners are said to have exchanged heated arguments.

Six people — Vijaykumar, Yashwanth, Prashanth, Mohammed Shabbir, Rihan Sheriff and Farhan Sheriff, have been arrested on charges of assaulting each other.

“We have stationed a force as a precaution and there is no tension. The situation is calm,” the DCP said.
