Six-months pregnant woman delivers twins on bus journey to West Bengal; both dead

Bareilly: A woman travelling to West Bengal delivered twins during her bus journey. The woman was on her way to West Bengal with her husband and 40 migrant labourers in a private bus. One of the twins was stillborn while the other died on its way to the hospital. 

The woman delivered the babies when the bus was in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh.

The woman used to work at a brick kiln in Hapur with her husband. The woman was identified as Fatima Bi and her husband was identified as Mithun Miyan. The couple hails from Cooch Behar in West Bengal. 

Labourers accuse government of inaction

The woman's husband said that the migrant workers staying in Hapur decided to book a private bus after they did not get any help from the government. The labourers paid Rs 1.2 lakh for going to West Bengal. The bus was booked on Saturday night. The labourers had allegedly applied online as they wanted to return home but they did not receive any response from the government. 

Fatima and her husband Mithun boarded the bus with the intention of returning home but had to go to the hospital instead. When the bus was passing from Bareilly, Fatima delivered her twins. One of the twins was stillborn while the other was a premature baby. 

Following this, the labourers called an ambulance and the bus was stopped at National Highway 24 in Bithri Chainpur area of Bareilly. A 108 ambulance picked the couple from the spot and drove them to the district hospital, The Times of India

reported. 

Dr Varsha Agarwal, the doctor attending to Fatima said that the patient had already delivered the twins when she was on the bus. Agarwal said, "Her condition is stable but she is upset. She was only six months pregnant. " Agarwal said that her samples will be sent for COVID-19 testing as she was travelling from another district.
