Six panchayats in Kozhikode turn hotspot

KOZHIKODE: All wards in six more panchayats in the district have been declared as containment zones, taking the total to 17. Ayencheri, Olavanna, Meppayur, Puthupadi, Kodencheri and Thiruvallur were notified as containment zones on Sunday. All wards in the Vadakara and Koyilandy municipalities have also become containment zones.




Meanwhile, eight more people were tested positive for Covid-19 in Chekkiad village where 43 persons contracted the disease at a marriage function. More tests will be conducted on Monday.

As many as 22 people within the corporation were tested positive on Sunday. The sample collected from Shahida, who died on Saturday at Kozhikode Medical College, was tested positive. Shahida was under treatment for cancer. As many as 30 staff of Malabar Medical College have been quarantined after an employee at the pharmacy was tested positive. The DSP office at Thalassery in Kannur was closed after an SI attached to the control room contracted the virus. DSP and other officials at the office have been quarantined.

In Malappuram, Kondotty fish market continues to be a cause of concern.
