Six runaway kids from MP found in Jhansi, reunited with parents

Jhansi: Angry over being beaten up by their mothers, six children – five siblings in the age group of two-and-a-half to 13 years and a 10-year-old boy in their neighbourhood – ran away from their homes in Raidas Nagar in Itarsi (Madhya Pradesh) on Thursday.

Government railway police (GRP) personnel found the children loitering at Jhansi railway station during the wee hours of Friday and handed them over to their parents.

A 13-year-old girl, who is the eldest among the children, informed the GRP that her three sisters and a brother live in Raidas Nagar and their parents are daily wage workers.

She said her mother often thrashed her and her siblings.

The girl said her mother beat her again on Thursday after which she got so angry that she and her siblings decided to run away from home. A neighbourhood boy came to know about this and showed his willingness to accompany them.

The children left home while their parents were away for work and boarded Malwa Express. They got down the train in Jhansi and started loitering on the station. A GRP patrol team, led by station officer Ajit Kumar Singh took the children to police station.

On the basis of the information given by children, the cops contacted their counterparts in Itarsi. Their parents reached Jhansi on Friday morning and took the children with them.

SO Ajit Kumar Singh said, “Parents of the children were relieved after getting our message as they were fearing for their safety. It was a very emotional moment for us today when we handed over the children to their parents.”
