Six thrashed over child-lifting rumours in Saran, Nalanda

BIHARSHARIF/CHHAPRA: Five persons were thrashed in Saran and one in Nalanda on suspicion of being child-lifters. Police rescued the victims from both the places.

Dozens of residents of Chorsua under Pawapuri police station area in Nalanda district thrashed a man on suspicion of being a child-lifter on Wednesday.

The man, in his late 40s, was later admitted to a hospital. Police sources said it was not clear who spread the rumour about the man being a child-lifter.

Five persons were thrashed by the residents of Ishuapur in Saran district on Tuesday. They were dragged out of an autorickshaw and thrashed by the locals, Ishuapur SHO Rakesh Kumar said. An FIR has been lodged against 15 persons in this connection. “The victims were from Chhapra town and were going to deliver Teej ‘prasad’ to their relatives,” he said.

Earlier, Sheikhpura police on Friday last had rescued a youth from the clutches of villagers, who were thrashing him on suspicion of being a child-lifter. A video of the crime went viral on Wednesday.

Nalanda police had also rescued four persons, including three from Madhya Pradesh, last month when the residents of Rahui caught and thrashed them on child-lifting rumours.
