Smugglers target trucks ferrying cattle: BSF

Kolkata: BSF has claimed that truckers ferrying seized cattle to a shelter in Jharkha-nd were attacked by suspect-ed members of the cattle mafia involved in cross-border smuggling.

BSF’s South Bengal Frontier has seized nearly 27,800 heads of cattle along the Bangladesh border in 2019. The animals were kept at BSF camps and efforts were made by senior officials to transfer them to shelters.

“On Thursday, two trucks with cattle rescued by BSF from smugglers along the Indo-Bangla border were being shifted by Dhyan Foundation to its cattle shelter in Jharkhand. There were banners in front to display the contents of the trucks and their origin and destination. When the trucks took a halt at a location within Bally police station limits around 7.45am, a group of cattle mafia armed with knives and blades attempted to break into the trucks and flee with the animals,” a senior BSF official said.
