SOG foils killing of Bharatpur jailer, nabs eight accused

JAIPUR: The Special Operations Group (SOG) of Rajasthan police claimed to have foiled a major conspiracy to gun down three people, including the jailer of Bharatpur's Sewar Jail, on Friday.

The SOG arrested eight accused and seized a huge cache of arms and ammunitions procured to target the jailer, convict Gangan Pandit and one Vijay Singh of Nagaur .

Also on their radar was a Dholpur businessman from whom the kingpin had planned to loot Rs 3 crore.

Additional SP Karan Sharma told TOI that a unit of SOG had intercepted one Kuldeep Singh alias Kedi Banna from Kuchera area of Nagaur district on Thursday. "We recovered one country-made pistol, one .32 bore gun with a magazine, and several bullets from him," he said.

‘Ram Dutt did not like jailer’

“His questioning revealed the major conspiracy for which arms were being procured,” Additional SP Karan Sharma said. As sleuths interrogated Kuldeep Singh, another SOG unit arrested his aides Bassti Ram, Chandra Shekhar and Chiku Singh. Officials said that Kuldeep Singh had got these weapons on being told by one Laxman Singh of Dholpur. “Laxman Singh told Kuldeep that his brotherin-law Ram Dutt was currently lodged in Bharatpur’s Sewar Jail. Ram Dutt did not like the jailer because of his upright attitude and wanted the jail official killed for which arms were needed,” an official said, adding that the accused also wanted to kill Gagan Pandit and Vijay Singh alias Bijju due to some gang rivalry.

Another team was sent to Dholpur which arrested Laxman Singh, Yagya Dutt, Banwari Lal and Pushrendra Thakur. Laxman Singh told cops that his brother-in-law Ram Dutt was miffed with the Sewar jailer.
