Sold in Rajasthan, 14-year-old Tripura girl rescued; her 10-weeks foetus aborted with her consent

Agartala: After the timely intervention of Tripura High Court, a 14-year-old girl from the state has returned home after she was sold in Rajasthan. 

The victim hailed from Ratacherra village of the Unokoti district in North Tripura.

According to a report in Times of India, the girl, who was suffering from COVID-19, returned to Tripura on Wednesday evening and later reunited with her family.

 

Unokoti Superintendent of Police (SP) said the girl will stay in quarantine for 14-days in Kailashahar.  

The victim will also be provided with counselling as she was also 10-weeks pregnant. The girl underwent abortion earlier this month.

She was sold to a man in Rajasthan's Jhunjhunu district. The girl later fled from the house of her captor.

The girl's plight was highlighted after the Tripura High Court took suo moto cognisance of the matter and issued notices to the Tripura government, Tripura child protection commission and National Commission of Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR). 

"A team of Integrated Child Development Service from Tripura had visited Rajasthan and the girl was brought home after all the paperwork. The matter has been informed to the court and the next course of action will be taken after the court's directions," said Nilima Ghosh, Chairperson Tripura COmmission for protection of child rights.
