Sonipat international perishable market to be linked with railway

CHANDIGARH: Haryana Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister,OP Dhankar said that Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) has been constituted to develop the proposed international fruit and vegetable market in Ganaur of district Sonipat as the world's most developed market, which was pending from the tenure of previous government.

Proposal to connect this mandi directly to the railway line will be raised before the Union Railways Ministry.

Dhankar was replying to a question during the question hour on the first day of the Monsoon Session of Haryana Vidhan Sabha, here today.

He also apprised the House that the Haryana International Horticultural Marketing Corporation Limited was established on July 6, 2018. Not only the international-level traders and investors will come to this Mandi for investment, but traders of Azadpur market in Delhi will also visit the Mandi.

Apart from this, local level traders will also set up their establishments. For their convenience, different types of buildings and hotels will be constructed in Ganaur. He said that the work of drawing and maps has been completed and the construction work is likely to start within a month.

He said that about 10,000 trucks will bring fresh fruits and vegetables from northern states everyday to Ganaur Mandi and their grading, packaging and processing will be done on zero wastage basis for import and export.
