Special search operation launched against drug peddlers in Fatehgarh Sahib

FATEHGARH SAHIB: To overcome the curse of drug abuse and to identify the drug peddlers and addicts at the grass root level, the district police have launched a unique awareness campaign cum search operation at village level with the help of village Panchayats particularly by involving women, who are coming forward in large number.

During this operation Sandeep Singh (25) of village Dufehra who is an accused in NDPS act was arrested.

Fatehgarh Sahib SSP Amneet Kondal said that the officials of the police department while addressing the rural folk at village Dufehra and Mehmadpur on Tuesday called upon them to come forward and join hands with police to completely eradicate this menace from district. She disclosed that the team comprising of more than 50 police personnel carried out the search operation. She said that the police would help the drug addicts to shun the drugs and motivate them to get treated from Drug De-addiction centers and OOAT centers being operated by State Government.

She said nothing concrete can be achieved without people's involvement in eradicating the drug menace. While assuring that police will not spare anyone involved in the drug trade, she said that the addicts will be treated free of cost and the peddlers will be taken to task.

She called upon the people to inform her about the activities of addicts and peddlers in their areas and the names of the informer will be kept secret. She said that all SHOs have been directed to work in a transparent manner. The sarpanches and the villagers appreciated the efforts of district police. They said that the police has launched the campaign against drugs, so we must support this noble cause.
